Bayo Park Galleries, a 10-acre outdoor sculpture park in Batavia, will introduce its new fall installation, titled “Specter Scepter,” during an open house 6-9 p.m. Oct. 12.
Bayo Park will also host showings of its new installation on Oct. 13, 18 and 19 from 6 to 8 p.m.
This year’s Bayo Park display is typically cryptic. The art gallery has introduced a fall outdoor display since at least 2016, using a combination of recycled materials, found objects, technology, lighting, natural brush and the landscape.
“Part of the experience for us is to invite people in the surrounding area to go on a journey with us,” said Reena Olaniyi to The Gazette in 2016. She runs the park and creates art along with her husband, Olibayo David. “We have a vision to build a very unique space for the arts.”
Olibayo describes this year’s installation with some poetic words.
“By day one way, by night the other. Crickets do creek in nature, not in digital sound. Owls ooooh, in recognition of those that it knows. Art in nature, created in that nature, or created with nature, buttressed by mechanical and digital technology, light, sound, action, music in between four subliminal realities in the middle of farm country – this is an artistic reflection of lives in IOWA.“
