Joliet residents stand up against Illinois’ largest proposed data center

JOLIET — Hundreds of Joliet residents spoke out for six hours against a nearly 800-acre data center proposed for Joliet, causing a planned city council vote on the project to be delayed until Thursday (Shaw Local). The proposed Joliet Technology Center is favored by union leaders because of the jobs it would generate, already approved by the plan commission, and would bring a $100 million investment into the city. But residents spoke out against the project over concerns that it would threaten the region’s electricity and water supplies, increase noise and light pollution, and bolster the use of artificial intelligence reports ABC7 Chicago. The proposed center would be the largest data center in Illinois.
