Mary's on 2nd bar, owner Bobby Stansberry bowing out
DAVENPORT — Bobby Stansberry, a fixture in the Quad Cities’ LGBTQ+ bar scene for more than three decades, is likely turning the Mary’s on 2nd bar in Davenport over to a new owner. Stansberry, also a visible figure in support of HIV support and destigmatization, announced last month he was retiring and a new owner was taking over Mary’s on 2nd. The bar is anticipated to be closed during the ownership transition and will be renamed upon opening, according to a post by Mary’s on 2nd. Stansberry has operated Mary’s on 2nd for 25 years and was also a bartender at several former LGBTQ+ bars throughout the Quad Cities, including JR’s Nightclub, which operated in downtown Rock Island in the 1980s and 1990s.
