Pekin rejects data center

PEKIN — The City Council here is expected Monday to officially reject a proposed data center (WCBU). Pekin Mayor Mary Burress announced March 10 that any tentative deal was off, following resident concerns about Western Hospitality Partners’ proposed 300-acre data center. “When a project creates this level of uncertainty and division, it’s important to step back and carefully consider whether moving forward is truly the right path,” she said to an audience that applauded the announcement. Prior to Burress’ announcement, which she said was based on numerous interactions with community and council members, a citizens group opposed to the data center had distributed 1,100 signs against the project (People’s World)
