U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement

Detention centers may be banned near schools, homes, churches

Immigration detention centers would be banned from within 1,500 feet of homes, churches,  schools, cemeteries, forest preserves and more under a bill advanced by an Illinois House committee (Capitol News Illinois.) The bill comes two months after protestors and federal agents clashed outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center  located within 600 feet of homes in Broadview, a town of 8,000. The town’s mayor estimates Broadview lost more than $700,000 through “public safety resources and economic disruption” because of the controversy around the ICE center.
