New leader for Black Lives Matter Lake County

WAUKEGAN — A longtime activist has been named executive director of the Lake County Black Lives Matter chapter. Zakee Darr, who had been chair of the board for the nonprofit, will replace outgoing executive director Clyde McLeMore, who resigned after video emerged in January of a physical alterecation between McLemore and a fundraising contractor. Darr has been involved with Black Lives Matter Lake County for more than six years and also led the Focus on Fathers nonprofit in Racine, Wis.,  “Our focus is simple: Open communication, responsible stewardship of resources, community‑centered decision making, healing, safety, and empowerment for our people,” the group announced on its Facebook page. “We look forward to walking this new path with you and restoring the trust our community deserves.”

Sober queer stand-up comedy Saturday

CHICAGO — If you’re a non-drinker, or just want a sober environment to hang out and catch a few laughs, Lavender Laugh Lounge is happening Saturday. This free monthly stand-up comedy show is followed by a social hour and tarot reading. It’s founded by stand-up comedienne Elaine Golden, disability inclusion expert Lily Ellora Newton, and Chicago-based filmmaker, writer and performer Rey Tang. The show runs from 6:30-7:30 pm. at Loaves & Witches, 6034 North Broadway.

Drag kings take spotlight Saturday

ROCKFORD — A night of drag king stars will also feature a new drag king look from Auntie Heroine, the revered horror drag queen from Boulet Brothers Dragula. Steven Ramberg, the performer behind Auntie Heroine, will host the “All Kings Show” at The Office Niteclub. The line-up features King Perk, star of the new drag king reality show “King of Drag;” Wisconsin Drag King of the Year Romeo Suave; and drag kings Sin Ryder and Spank Knightly. The show is for people ages 21 and older; admission is $5. The Office Niteclub is at 513 E. State St.
