Rochelle City Council decision on data center postponed

ROCHELLE — Consideration of a 200-acre data center that would consume enough electricity to power 150,000 homes has been postponed by the Rochelle City Council, reports WIFR. The data center is proposed by the New York firm LFF Industrial and would also consume 50,000 gallons of water a day. A proposed agreement between LFF and the city would require the company to invest more than $4 million into electrical improvements and $2.8 million in water and sewer infrastructure. Residents first raised concerns about the data center in October, and on March 23, Rochelle Mayor also expressed concerns, saying he’d prefer projects that create more jobs and more directly benefit students. The City Council hasn’t said when it would return to the data center proposal.
