Celebrate Living Lands & Waters with Justice Choir

DAVENPORT — Hear songs that celebrate the Earth at the Justice Choir of the Midwest’s concert “Easy on the Earth: A Concert for Environmental Justice.” The concert features composers from  across the world and across different identities, including The concert is free, but donations are suggested. Proceeds benefit Living Lands & Waters, a river clean-up nonprofit headquartered in East Moline. Justice Choir of the Midwest, sponsored by First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, features adult singers offering concerts with a focus on social and climate justice. The concert is at 7 p.m at First Presbyterian, 1702 Iowa St.

Examen book club

Tuesday book club examines 'tension between faith and doubt'

MOLINE — Gather with a member of the Quad Cities’ Affirming Congregations group for “Examen,” a book club exploring “the tension between faith and doubt” led by a founder of the Quad Cities’ LGBTQ+ affirming spiritual coalition. Pastor Robb McCoy will lead a discussion of  “Separation of Church and Hate,” a book by comedian John Fugelsang that examines fundamentalist beliefs. McCoy is pastor of Two Rivers United Methodist Church in Rock Island and a co-founder of the Affirming Congregations of the Quad Cities, a coalition of LGBTQ+ affirming faith groups from throughout the Quad Cities. Fugelsang describes his book  as about “fighting for the love, mercy, and service that are supposed to make up the heart of Christianity.” Admission to the book club is “pay as you can,” with proceeds to benefit Two Rivers’ community meal program. The gathering happens 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Atlas Collective Brews & Books, 1801 5th Ave.

Three pets per home welcome at Friday low-cost clinic

DAVENPORT — Up to three pets per household can get their vaccines and a checkup this Friday at the Quad Cities Welfare Center’s mobile vaccine clinic. An exam with vaccines costs $50. Other services include heartworm tests, flea and tick prevention, and microchip installation. Dogs must be on a leash, and cats must be in a carrier. The clinic is for vaccines and basic exams only; it can’t handle emergencies or illnesses. Find the clinic this Friday and every Friday until September at Zion Lutheran Church, 1216 W. 8th St., from 2 to 4 p.m.
