PEKIN — Learn about the experience of living queer in rural Illinois, when transgender activist Zoey Carter speaks at tonight’s “Country Queers Persevere” event. Carter will also share her experiences running for the Illinois House twice as an openly transgender woman. The event is hosted by Planned Parenthood Illinois Action and also features coffee, tea and refreshments — plus a chance for attendees to share their experiences, too. Queer & Allied Business Mixer by Uniting Pride Saturday
CHAMPAIGN — LGBTQ+ and allied business owners, managers, entrepreneurs and community leaders in the Champaign-Urbana area are invited to network and build relationships Saturday evening at the Queer and Allies Business Mixer. The gathering is 3 to 6 p.m. at the Quality Bar, 110 N. Neil St. It’s co-presented by the Uniting Pride Center of Champaign County, the LGBTQ+ nonprofit serving east central Illinois, and Good Judy’s Espresso and Bagel Bar. No pre-registration is needed to attend.

Naysha Lopez headlines drag show for The Immigration Project
NORMAL — Naysha Lopez, the smart-talking RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant from 2016’s Season 8 who can now be found hosting the Roscoe’s Viewing Party in Chicago, headlines the 26th Annual Charity Drag Show Saturday at the Bone Student Center, Illinois State University. Lopez, who also competed in the eighth season of RuPaul’s All-Stars, is also a former Miss Continental champion. The evening raises money for The Immigration Project, which is the main provider of legal services for immigrants in central and southern Illinois. Tickets are $18.35; get yours here.
