
QC sports groups tout Sunday meal gatherings
The Quad Cities’ two LGBTQ+ sports nonprofits are each inviting the community to different Sunday meal gatherings. In Davenport’s Junge Park, Out Sports Quad Cities hosts a Big Gay BBQ starting at 11:30 . The fun includes a potluck-style meal, games. and possibly pick-up sand volleyball games. In Rock Island, Pride in Motion is encouraging its followers to join the monthly Family Dinner hosted by Clock Inc. at its headquarters. Also co-hosting the noon to 2 p.m. gathering: Free Mom Hugs and the Trans Action Committee through One Human Family. The gathering is held every third Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. at Clock Inc.,  4102 46th Ave. Junge Park in Davenport is at 3299 Western Ave.

Davenport's civil rights history takes spotlight
DAVENPORT — Take a deep dive into Davenport’s civil rights history with a Sunday afternoon gathering and exhibit. Ryan Saddler, vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion at St. Ambrose University, is the featured speaker at Kaffe & Kuchen. He’ll focus on Charles and Ann Toney, considered the “mother and father” of Davenport’s civil rights movement. The event also features the Davenport Civil Rights Traveling Exhibit by the Putnam Museum. The event is free with an $8 donation requested. Kaffee und Kuchen is every second and fourth Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the German American Heritage Center & Museum, 712 W. 2nd St.

MLK Center offers three days for families, kids
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Three free family-centered events will be at the Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Center this July, starting today. Community Day is today from noon to 4 p.m. and features free haircuts for kids, school supplies, giveaways, kids games, and more. Then, July 29, kids and families are invited to a Day of Play from 5 to 7 p.m., co-hosted by the Center for Youth and Family Services, The evening features resources from 15 community organizations and family fun. Lastly, free eye exams for kids. will be available at the MLK Center courtesy of the Virdi Eye Clinic all day July 3o. Appointments are required, and those without insurance are welcome; call 309-788-5524. The MLK Center is at 630 9th St. Today’s Community Day is co-sponsored by the Illinois State Council of the Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith and Christ Temple Quad Cities.
