Trans fashion influencer leads Book Club Tuesday
MOLINE — Quad Cities transgender fashion leader Chara Couture will host the latest book club at The Atlas Collective: “Plastic, Prism, Void: Part One,” a novel that GoodReads describes as a “riotous trans enemies-to-lovers romantasy.”  Happening Tuesday evening, the book club is free or “pay what you can” to benefit Clock Inc. LGBT Community Center. “Plastic, Prism, Void” is the debut novel by Chicago sci-fi and fantasy author Violet Allen. The book club is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.a t The Atlas Collective, 1801 5th Ave.
Moline to celebrate 250th, offer housing resources
MOLINE — Resources for housing access and strengthening neighborhoods are among the key elements of Wednesday’s Party in the Park by the City of Moline. The evening event is both a collection of citizen resources, and a kickoff to Moline’s recognition of the country’s 250th anniversary. In addition to resource tables and information, you’ll also find free hot dogs, giveaways, music, games, Kona Ice, and a Movie in the Park (“Captain America”) The fun is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Browning Park, 1618 21st Ave., with the movie starting at 9 p.m.
Majority of Quad Cities homeless have just become so: study
DAVENPORT — More than four out of five unhoused people in the Quad Cities just became so within the past year, according to a recent study (WQAD). The report also shows that 1,200 single adults and 360 families become homeless every year in the seven-city region. In addition, the report notes, housing costs have risen more quickly than incomes in the past 10 years, and greater coordination is needed between the Iowa and Illinois side of the Quad Cities. It outlines a two-phase plan that starts with a $9 million allotment toward some combination of “prevention, housing support, rapid intervention, family stabilization and help for people with complex needs” that hasn’t yet been determined, WQAD reports.
