Muslim holiday no longer honored by Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, ILL. — The Muslim holiday of Eid-al Fitr, typically recognized by a resolution from the Bloomington City Council, has been removed from the council’s agenda (WGLT). Bloomington Mayor Dan Brady said the war in Iran had caused several citizens to express concern about the resolution. Local Muslim leaders at the Islamic Center of McLean County agreed that rescheduling the resolution after the holiday would minimize pushback, WGLT reports.

Transitional housing needed in Peoria with New Hope closing

PEORIA, ILL. — Up to 15 people were left without housing when New Hope Apartments closed in early March, reports 25 News Now. The apartments that originally provided transitional housing for about 80 people had to close because of uncertainty over the federal funding that made it impossible, organizers aid. The nonprofit LULA is working to find replacement housing and also asks the public for donations of money and camping supplies to help with the situation. Easier access to service for veterans in Marion

MARION, ILL. — Veterans will find it easier to access lab results and imaging, and women will receive more focus, through a new clinic on the campus of the VA Marion Health Care System, 2401 W. Main St. (The Southern). Four support teams have been moved into one location, labs and radiology are closer, and soon a women’s health clinic will be built. The changes are part of the Veterans Affairs system seeking to modernize its campus in Marion, and to address an increase in the number of women veterans overall.
