Cobden "Spayapalooza' aims to spay/neuter 100 cats
COBDEN — Help the Cobden Spay & Neuter Coalition raise $10,000 for the cause of reducing the area’s cat overpopulation through an online fundraiser, or an upcoming tattoo event. Through “Spayapalooza,” the southern Illinois community of Cobden aims to spay or neuter at least 100 cats through the end of April. The group follows the practice of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), “By preventing these births now, we can stop hundreds of kittens from being born into suffering,” the group writes on its GiveButter page. Also coming up: an April 10: a Flash Tattoo Fundraiser, at Ascendant Moon Tattoo, where tattoo artists will offer special flash tattoo designs with proceeds supporting the Spayapalooza campaign.

Illinois among 13 states targeted by Trump over abortion
The Trump administration is investigating 13 states that cover abortion services with insurance, including Illinois, reports The Lion. The federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has asked those states for information on how they use insurance policies. In addition, the Trump administration accuses Illinois of unlawfully forcing health care providers to provide abortion referrals against their objections. Each state will have 20 days to respond, and the HHS will seek legal consequences from the Department of Justice.

Stakes grow for POWER Act regulation of data centers
Community pushback to data center developments is increasing as the General Assembly considers regulation of data centers with the POWER (Protecting Our Water, Energy and Ratepayers)Â Act (Chicago Reader). The Joliet City Council recently approved what will be the largest data center in the state, but projects in Pekin, Naperville and Leslie were struck down. A possible data center in Chicago is encountering resistance from the local community. The POWER ACT will set guidelines for new data centers and demand cooperation with communities where data centers will be developed. It is currently with the Senate AI and Social Media committee and awaits a hearing.
