Leather Archives and Museum starts $2 million renovation
CHICAGO — A wheelchair-accessible entrance and expanded gallery space are coming to the Leather Archives and Museum (LAM) as part of a $2 million renovation (Block Club Chicago). The LAM’s interior will also get an update with darker walls, leather furniture and light fixtures. The 35-year-old museum’s board started discussing renovation in 2001, a year after moving to their current location. LAM started the renovations June 1 and will reopen next May. Will County campaign offers free adoption, microchips
WILL COUNTY — Through July 10, you can adopt dogs, cants ferrets and rabbits for no adoption fee and with free microchips from the Will County Animal Protection Services (WCAPS). The shelter’s “Every Pet Deserves a Victory Lap” campaign (Patch) is a partnership between WCAPS and Chicagoland Speedway. State’s Attorney to limit data sharing connected to ICE
CHICAGO — The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office is working on a new contract with data company Appriss Insights LLC to limit data sharing with federal agencies such as ICE (Chicago Sun-Times). The legal advocacy nonprofit Just Futures Law (JFL) found through public records requests that Illinois residents’ information could be shared with ICE through third-party data companies like Appriss, which operates Illinois’ victim notification system, VINE. Illinois sanctuary laws limit cooperation between federal immigration authorities and state and local law enforcement. JFL says contracts such as the one with Appriss offer a back door around the sanctuary laws.; the new contract is intended to close any back-door access.
