Capital City Pride hosts Pride Night with Des Moines Menace
DES MOINES — Capital City Pride Fest may have been two weeks ago, but Pride continues in Iowa’s capital city Saturday with Iowa Menace Pride Night. The fun starts at 6 p.m. with a pre-game Pride Party featuring face-painting, lawn games and more. At 7 p.m., the Des Moines Menace pre-pro soccer team takes on Peoria City at Mediacom Stadium for a Pride night that features give-aways and themed purchases. Also, $5 of each $15 ticket goes to Capital City Pride, the nonprofit that coordinates Des Moines’ annual Pride festival. Grinnell celebrates Pride with BBQ, Worship Service
GRINNELL — Two days of Pride celebration start in Grinnell Saturday, with a Big Gay BBQ in Central Park, 925 3rd Ave. The day includes games, story-time, vendors, a DJ, and an on-site, first-ever Pride Month proclamation by Mayor Sam Cox. Sunday, the celebration continues at 10:30 a.m. with a Pride Sunday Worship Service at Grinnell United Church of Christ, 902 Broad St. The weekend is coordinated by PFLAG Grinnell Poweshiek.
Family, kid fun defines Valley Junction Pride
WEST DES MOINES — Kids’ fun is a big part of the third annual Valley Junction Pride happening Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The day kicks off with a pet parade that accepts registrations right up until its start at 11 a.m. You’ll also find a maker’s market, drag story-time, a kids’ zone, family-friendly entertainment, voter registration, resources and vendors, and live entertainment throughout the day. The event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is hosted by Historic Valley Junction, a coalition of 140 businesses in West Des Moines centered around 137 5th St. Find out more about the event at its Facebook page or the event webpage.
