New leader for Black Lives Matter Lake County
WAUKEGAN — A longtime activist has been named executive director of the Lake County Black Lives Matter chapter. Zakee Darr, who had been chair of the board for the nonprofit, will replace outgoing executive director Clyde McLeMore, who resigned after video emerged in January of a physical alterecation between McLemore and a fundraising contractor. Darr has been involved with Black Lives Matter Lake County for more than six years and also led the Focus on Fathers nonprofit in Racine, Wis., “Our focus is simple: Open communication, responsible stewardship of resources, community‑centered decision making, healing, safety, and empowerment for our people,” the group announced on its Facebook page. “We look forward to walking this new path with you and restoring the trust our community deserves.”
