Open house for inclusive park program Thursday

MOLINE —Parents of kids with intellectual disabilities who are age 8 to 14 are invited to Adaptive Park Pop-ups Open House Night Thursday. Adaptive Park Pop-Ups is a program that provides playground fun at Moline city parks customized to be suitable for kids with special needs. Activities include arts and crafts, dancing to music, and teamwork games. Pre-registration is required  for the open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the City Services Center, 1830 6th Ave. Click here and navigate to Adaptive Programs, where you’ll find a sign-up link for Thursday evening, and for the three upcoming Adaptive Park Pop-up dates at the City Services Center April 23 and May 14, and June 18 at Peterson Park, 3601 8th Ave. All the pop-ups are from 5 to 6 p.m.,  and all Adaptive Park programs are free.

MCCQC offers free community meal Saturday

DAVENPORT — Gather for a free monthly community meal Saturday by volunteers at the Metropolitan Community Church of the Quad Cities (MCCQC). Celebrating its 46th anniversary this year, MCCQC is Iowa’s only member of the worldwide MCC, a denomination devoted to social justice and originally founded  to provide a welcoming spiritual home for LGBTQ+ Christians. Its volunteers prepare and serve a free meal each month with a different menu. This month, it’s spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, and desserts, with meatless options are available for vegetarians. To help with the meal, contact Jolene Ramsey-Moody by calling  the church at 563-324-8281. The community meal is from 5 to 6 p.m. every third Saturday at MCCQC, 2930 W. Locust.

Talk about "This Dog Will Change Your Life" at Thursday book club

MOLINE — Get together with fellow dog lovers Thursday to talk about “This Dog Will Change Your Life” by Elias Weiss Friedman at The Atlas Collective’s monthly book club. Friedman’s book blends personal stories and photographs to show the benefit dogs provide to people. The gathering is “pay what you can,” with door proceeds going this month to the Rescued nonprofit to help pets in need.
