
Normal native brings clean, edgy standup to Jazz UpFront
BLOOMINGTON — It’ll be bold, but free of vulgarity: check out Sunday’s adults-only “Clean But Edgy” stand-up comedy at Jazz Upfront, with Terri Ryburn (also known as Dr. T) . Ryburn is a comedian and owner of Ryburn Place Gifts & Gab in Normal, a retired Illinois State University professor, a playwright, a member of the Dramatists’ Guild of America, and a McLean County native. Volunteers needed for Pekin Pride Festival Aug. 22
PEKIN — You can help make the Pekin Pride Festival run smoothly Aug. 22, by signing up to volunteer. The event, happening 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Mineral Springs Park, will feature entertainment, vendors and food; organizers are seeking six to 10 more volunteers for three four-hour shifts throughout the day. They’ll help with event setup or teardown and answer vendors’ and guests’ questions and get a free t-shirt and meal. Sign up to volunteer here. The event is organized by the Rural Equality Project, which promotes diversity and equity through community events and advocacy. Pekin Pride is also hosting “Raising Glasses for Pride” Saturday night; head to Yesterday’s Bar Grill, 363 Court St., for prizes, drinks and socializing.

Gender Euphoria hosts clothing event, button-making
BLOOMINGTON/NORMAL — Free clothes and a button-making party are coming this weekend in vents organized by Gender Euphoria. Saturday, Free Clothes at the Wardrobe will provide outfits for all identities and ages from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Wardrobe, 825 E. Jefferson St., Bloomington. Gender Euphoria also hosts a Button-Making Party Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Normal Public Library. You’ll use designs from magazines or printed templates to create your buttons. Head to the community room of the library, 206 W. College Ave. Allies are welcome at both events. Gender Euphoria is a social group for trans, nonbinary and gender-nonconforming people. Its monthly meetings are the last Saturday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Bistro, 326 N. Main St.
