
'The Business of Fancydancing' screens tomorrow at FilmScene
IOWA CITY — A film about Native American men who each took different paths after leaving their childhood reservation shows at this months’s Pride at FilmScene tonight. “The Business of Fancydancing” shows childhood friends who reconnect over another friend’s funeral, and the different ways they’ve adapted to white-dominated society. Pride at FilmScene is an oingoing partnership between FilmScene and Iowa City Pride, and this film is also co-presented by the Native American Student Association at the University of Iowa. Iowa City extends two housing assistance programs
IOWA CITY — Housing for youth transitioning out of foster care, and for adults with financial challenges, is preserved in Johnson County, following the Iowa City City Council’s decision on two programs Monday (Iowa City Press-Citizen). One of those programs started in 2021 and provides housing vouchers to 53 needy residents throughout Johnson County; it currently has no more capacity, but the council’s Monday decision makes the program permanent. Another, the Foster to Youth Independence program. helps up to 25 young adults age 18 to 24 with housing assistance. Boone Pride in central Iowa happening Saturday
BOONE — This central Iowa town kicks off the LGBTQ+ Pride season in Iowa, with Saturday’s fourth annual Boone Pride Fest. Organizers promise five food trucks, over two dozen vendors, live entertainment and family-friendly activities. Safe Paws Iowa will also host and judge a pet pride parade at 12 p.m. The day is presented by Boone Iowa Pride from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Green Space, on the corner of 8th and Story St.
