
Nonprofit NEST Cafe celebrates fourth anniversary Thursday
ROCK ISLAND — Celebrate the fourth anniversary Thursday of NEST Café, the Quad Cities’ “pay-what-you-can,” nonprofit, locally-sourced restaurant. Themed t-shirts and giveaways will be available for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and for dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. You’re encouraged to pay what’s suggested, pay more, or pay nothing at all. NEST Café is at 1524 4th Ave.

Iowa Women's Jazz Orchestra headlines concert Tuesday
EAST MOLINE — The Iowa Women’s Jazz Orchestra (IWJO), a collection of top female jazz musicians from throughout Iowa, will lead a free concert Tuesday that also features college and high school players. The Black Hawk College Jazz Festival starts at 7 p.m. at United Township High School, 1275 Avenue of the Cities. Also performing: the Black Hawk College Jazz Ensemble, and United Township High School’s Jazz Ensemble. The IWJO exists to encourage women and girls to participate in the arts.Â

History on Tap tackles science, religion with Schwiebert
DAVENPORT — Former Rock Island Mayor Mark Schwiebert will lead Thursday’s, History on Tap. which is all about “reconciling science and religion” with an environmental perspective. Schwiebert led Rock Island from 1989 to 2009, is the namesake of Schwiebert Riverfront Park, and founded the Mark W. Schwiebert Fund for Environmental Studies at the QC Community Foundation. History on Tap, happening every third Thursday, is a chance to delve into history and science at the Putnam over a drink. Entry is pay what you can; the gathering at the Putnam Museum and Science Center, 1717 W. 12th St., starts at 5:30 p.m., with drinks served at 5 p.m.
