Boulder's The Sweet Lillies perform at Thursday potluck
CAMBRIDGE — Enjoy a family-friendly potluck and “Americana roots pop fusion” music from Colorado at the Crossoads Cultural Connections concert Thursday. Featuring The Sweet Lillies quartet from Boulder, this is the latest event from the nonprofit formed in 2021 to celebrate the arts throughout Henry County. The Sweet Lillies have released six albums and meld different musical forms — ranging from classical to blues to hip-hop — into a storytelling style of music with an unpredictable set list. They’ll perform from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ca d’zan House Concerts, 411 South Rd. The night also includes a potluck meal, with dishware provided; bring whatever you’d like. Monthly silent book club in Galena Thursday
GALENA — Catch up on reading in a no-pressure social environment at the monthly Silent Book Club Thursday at Miss Kitty’s Grape Escape.  You can bring your own book, or you can ask a librarian on hand from the Galena Public Library District for a recommendation. Conversation before and after the hour of quiet reading is encouraged. Please wear headphones or ear buds if you’re listening to an audiobook. The book club meets 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every third Thursday; Miss Kitty’s is at 242 N. Main St.
'Torment at Twelve Hundred' seeks haunt actors, parking help
ORION — Flex your scaring muscles this fall by working as a scare actor at Torment at Twelve Hundred, one of Illinois’ oldest and best-known haunted attractions. Scare actors will learn to play characters that frighten guests without touching them. ‘Torment,’ which has been scaring attendees at 5030 N. 1200th Ave. for 22 years, is also looking for parking attendants. Both scare actors and parking attendants must have weekends free and reliable transportation; both positions also usually pay around minimum wage. ‘Torment at Twelve Hundred’ will be open every Friday through Sunday in October from 7 p.m. to midnight.
