Trippy fashion, psychedelic colors at fashion show Friday

BLOOMINGTON —  A jaunt into trippy, groovy fashion and design is what you’ll find Friday at the annual Illinois State Fashion Show, with a theme this year of “Kaleidoscope.” Castle Theatre is the siteof this showcase led by students from Illinois State University’s Fashion Design and Merchandising Program. You’ll see fFashion and performances that connect with old-fashioned psychedelic colors. All ages are welcome at the show, which starts at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $19.34; get yours here. Sangamon greenlights 280-acre data center

SPRINGFIELD — A $500 million data center is coming to Sangamon County, even though dozens of residents tried to speak out against the project at a supervisors’ meeting April 7, reports NPR Illinois.. The 280-acre center is proposed by CyrusOne to be built near the town of Waverly, and will pull water from nearby Waverly Lake. Supervisors originally delayed a decision on the center in the face of citizen concerns about water use, electrical spikes and noise.  The panel approved the project by a vote of 17-10, with proponents mentioning the jobs and millions in property tax revenue the project will generate.

Holi Moli to honor Hindu holiday with bright powders

NORMAL — The Hindu holiday that celebrates spring, and the triumph of good over evil, will be honored at Holi Moli! Saturday at Uptown Circle. You’re encouraged to wear all-white to this event to help show off the brightly colored Holi powder that will be thrown during a parade, a Holi tradition. The holiday honors not only spring and good triumphing over evil, but also unity. The celebration is a joint effort of the South Asian Performing Art Club and the Asian American & Pacific Islander Students at Normal Community High School; the Children’s Discovery Museum; the McLean County Museum of History; and the Indian Student Association at Illinois State University. Gather from 1 to 3 p.m. at Uptown Circle, 11 Uptown Circle.
