LGBTQ+ support group gathers in Mt. Vernon Tuesday

MOUNT VERNON — Build connection and share experiences at the LGBTQ+ Community Support Group. Hosted by OUT Mt. Vernon, the city’s LGBTQ+ Pride group, this gathering is adults-only and peer-led by Gemma Browne, co-leader of Out Mt. Vernon’s Health & Wellness Committee. Organizers describe the gathering as a chance to “build friendships, share experiences, and support one another.” You can join the group this Tuesday or every third Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at C.E. Brehm Memorial Public Library, 101 S. 7th St.

Celebrate no-kill shelter's 20th, Dawg Park Thursday

CARBONDALE — The Hangar 9’s new Dawg Park, and the 20th anniversary of St. Francis CARE’s no-kill shelter, are the inspiration for Thursday’s Hang at the Hangar. You’ll find live music by blues keyboardist Stick Gilbert and the blues/rock/boogie band Loose Gravel, plus give-aways, info about volunteering for the shelter, and St. Francis CARE merchandise for sale. Proceeds benefit the shelter, and you can also check here for items the shelter needs. You’ll also have a chance to experience Dawg Park, a dog-friendly  beer garden re-opened Thursday. The party is 4 to 7 p.m. at Hangar 9, 511 S. Illinois Ave. 

Sacred Conversations on Racial Injustice

Floyd-inspired 'Racial Injustice' group meets online Wednesday

ONLINE — A monthly online gathering inspired six years ago by the death of George Floyd will hold its latest gathering Wednesday. Sacred Conversations on Racial Injustice features discussions of books, articles, videos, guest speakers and experts. It’s hosted by First Christian Church of Carbondale. “We knew we couldn’t be followers of Jesus in this time and place… without learning about and examining our own involvement in racism,” writes the church on its website.
