
"Enchanted Forest" Queer Youth Prom Saturday
JOLIET — LGBTQ+ children ages 13 to 18 can enjoy an enchanted forest-themed prom at the Joliet Pride Network’s (JPN) Queer Youth Prom Saturday. Fantasy-themed costumes like elves and fairies are encouraged but not necessary. Tickets are $10 and can be found here. You can also let organizers know if you have dietary restrictions or music recommendations. Before the prom, Sitting Pretty Studio will provide free beauty services including skin care, makeup and hair styling. The prom is 6 to 10 p.m. at the Joliet Area Historical Museum, 204 N Ottawa St.

JUNO Award-winner performs at older queer adults event
ROCKFORD — Three-time JUNO Award nominee Alysha Brilla is the featured musician at the third annual LGBTQI+ Night for older queer adults Tuesday evening. Brilla, also a nominee for the Women in Music International Leadership award, is a multi-instrumentalist based on Brampton, Ont., who provides healing music. Also performing is Rockford’s Vince Chiarelli Band, bringing Italian ballads, bossa nova and swing tunes. The event is hosted by the Northwestern IL Area Agency on Aging, which is providing carpooling; contact Patrick Gates at 815-329-3328 to catch a ride. Tickets to the night are $13 for adults, $12 for seniors , $11 for students and military, and free for kids 5 and under. The event is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Anderson Japanese Gardens, 318 Spring Creek Rd.

First-ever Yorkville Area Pride happens Saturday
YORKVILLE — Hear from storytellers and musicians, shop Northern Illinois small business vendors, and enjoy family-friendly activities at the first Yorkville Area Pride Saturday. Kid-friendly activities include face painting, a bounce house, chalk art, and DIY flower crowns and friendship bracelets. Food from the food trucks Mamie’s Toffee, Tacomotora, and Reggie’s on Wheels will be available to purchase. Yorkville Area Pride is organized by the affirming Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ. The festival is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m at the church, 409 Center Pkwy.
