Springfield, Illinois

Springfield is one of the country's hottest housing markets

SPRINGFIELD — Strikingly low housing sale prices and speedy sales are catapulting Illinois’ capital city into the nation’s Top 20 list for hot housing markets (Realtor.com). In May, Springfield was 13th on the list, which is based on price and number of days on the market. Springfield’s median sales price per home was listed at the time as $250,000, the lowest of all communities in the Top 20, and has since dropped below $200,000. The median number of days a Springfield home for sale sits on the market is 28, four less than last year, Realtor.com reports. Springfield is also the only non-Wisconsin Midwestern market on the list, which otherwise includes mostly northeastern communities (map image courtesy TownMapsUSA.com)
