Day of science, fun, music at Putnam Palooza

DAVENPORT — A day of kids’ fun, science and the arts — and an evening of live music and food trucks — are happening this Saturday at the 2nd Annual PutnamPalooza. The fun kicks off at 10 a.m. and includesa chemistry demo, storytelling and a performance by Ballet Quad Cities. After dark, catch performances by three local bands. Admission is $12 for daytime, or for evening, or $20 for both.  Putnam was founded in 1865 and is devoted to exploring art, culture and history, It’s located at 1717 12th St.

New King’s Café in Rock Island three days a week

ROCK ISLAND — A new community space that features coffee, games and resources is now open three days a week — including Thursday morning — at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. King’s Cafe is a chance to relax, socialize, catch up on news and learn about the center. Anyone from the community is welcome in. King’s Cafe is 9 a.m. to noon every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the MLK Center, 630 9th St.

More affordable housing at Carol's Village Gardens

DAVENPORT — The Quad Cities has 30 more affordable housing units, after the ribbon-cutting for Carol’s Village Gardens April 24 (KWQC). The complex, at 820 Harrison St., features 30 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, plus six units specifically for people coming out of homelessness. The project is by Vera French Mental Health, which is seeking donations of funds to help run the program, and furniture to furnish the apartments. Though all units are full currently, you can fill out an application here to be considered for future openings, if your income is generally $43,000 or less, or qual to 60 percent of the area’s median income. learn more about Carol’s Village Gardens here.
