“Let’s Talk About Fostering” workshop Thursday
GALESBURG — Are you thinking about becoming a foster family? The Center for Youth and Family Solutions (CYFS) has an event for you: “Let’s Talk About Fostering,” happening Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. The workshop covers the foster process in Illinois, what fostering through CYFS looks like, and why it’s important more people become fosters. Its intended audience are not only people who want to foster or learn more about it, but also people seeking more ways to support children in their lives. Illinois currently faces a foster care crisis, with more than 18,000 kids and teens in foster care and only about 6,300 licensed foster homes. Join the conversation at Galesburg Public Library, 264 W. Main St.

Rochelle rejects data center over power, water worries
ROCHELLE — Concerned that future power demands might overtax its self-owned electric utility, the city of Rochelle has rejected a 300,000-square-foot data center (WREX). The city council voted unanimously April 27 to say “no” to Midwest Power Investor’s proposed center, which would have consumed 50,000 gallons of water daily, and eventually up to 150 megawatts of power daily. The council had previously delayed a vote on the project, and Mayor John Bearows announced before he vote that he would not support the project. Rochelle currently has three smaller data centers.
