Trans Sanctuary Davenport meeting Tuesday
DAVENPORT — Trans Sanctuary Davenport, a group pushing for Davenport to pass laws protecting people seeking gender transition care, welcomes to the public to learn more at a gathering Tuesday. Iowa currently has no trans sanctuary cities, though Iowa City considered such a policy in 2024. Iowa removed “gender identity” as a protected class in the state’s civil rights code last year and is also among 25 states that prohibit gender transition measures for youth, leaving some fearful the state will eventually seek to limit gender transition services for adults, too. Nationwide, about 10 cities have declared themselves to be trans sanctuary cities, writes the Advocate. Tuesday’s meeting is organized by the Quad Cities Democratic Socialists of America and is 6:30to 8:30 p.m. at Ecdysiast Arts Museum, 322 Brady St
