Two vacant historic buildings collapse, inspections for others
MUSCATINE — City officials have growing concerns about the safety of older buildings along Muscatine’s East 2nd Street, after two older historic buildings collapsed July 31 during heavy rains (WQAD). No one was injured, and the buildings at 201 and 203 E. 2nd St. had been evacuated in November (KWQC) after movement had been detected in a shared wall. The entire block that connects to the structures had also been evacuated in June. Since so many structures along E. 2nd St. share walls, city officials will be checking on all of the buildings to ensure their safety, WQAD reports.
